Stoke-on-Trent epilepsy group walks its way to charity ‘wonga’

20 May, 2010

The Stoke-on-Trent branch of national charity Epilepsy Action is preparing to raise serious ‘wonga’ for the charity by hosting a sponsored walk through Bathpool Park.

The one and a half mile Epilepsy Action Wonga Walk takes place at the park in Kidsgrove at 11.00am on Sunday 13 June during National Epilepsy Week (13-19 June).  It is hoped the event will encourage walkers to learn more about epilepsy and inspire those affected by the condition to get involved with the branch.  The branch is hoping to raise £250 to help support people with epilepsy.

Branch member Helen Jones, has organised the walk as her son has epilepsy. Helen said: “My son has complex partial seizures. I want more people to understand epilepsy and I hope the walk might help reduce some of the stigma associated with the condition.”

This walk is one of several Wonga Walks taking place across the country to mark Epilepsy Action’s sixtieth anniversary. The charity is hoping the walks will clock up a total distance of 9,240 miles – equivalent to walking to Timbuktu and back. To achieve this target, Epilepsy Action needs 60 walking groups of 25 people, each walking a distance of six miles.
