A Tividale woman is preparing to pull on her walking shoes to support Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy charity.
Kim Horne has organised an Epilepsy Action Wonga Walk in Oldbury at 11.00am on Saturday 25 June. The walk is two miles long and will start and finish at The George Pub, Dudley Road East, Oldbury. Kim is hoping to recruit 30 walkers. Kim is supporting Epilepsy Action as her nephew, Michael, died after an epileptic seizure in February 2010, aged just 27. Kim hopes the walk will raise awareness of epilepsy in memory of Michael.
The walk is part of a series of walks organised as part of National Epilepsy Week. The week aims to raise awareness of epilepsy and raise funds to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.
Kim said: “When my nephew passed away after having epileptic seizures, it was a tragic loss for us especially as he was only a young boy. I wanted to do something for him as well as creating awareness of epilepsy. We hope to raise around £2,000 for Epilepsy Action.”

Epilepsy affects one in every 131 people in the UK alone and 75 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Last year Epilepsy Action directly helped over 845,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, branch network, specialist nurse scheme and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
