A Big Day for Charity (Sheffield)

24 September, 2007

Rachael Winskill from Beighton had a day to remember when she held a collection outside Tesco in Sheffield wearing her wedding dress. The collection was held in aid of Epilepsy Action, the UK’s leading member-led epilepsy charity.

Rachael and friends asked people to sponsor them for the event which took place on Saturday 18 August. They also packed bags at Sainsbury’s in Sheffield to help raise funds, and succeeded in raising nearly £1100 for the charity!

Rachael says: “My son has Sturge-Weber syndrome, this is a rare congenital neurological condition that affects about one in half a million people in the UK. One of the main effects is epilepsy. I wanted to raise funds for research into epilepsy and also to raise awareness of my son’s rare condition.”

She continues: “As it was National Wedding Dress Day in August we decided that it would be a good idea to wear our wedding dresses while doing the collection.
It was a great day and we all had a lot of fun I am really happy with how much money we have managed to raise.”

The money raised by Rachael will help fund vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action, the UK’s leading member-led epilepsy charity. The charity now directly helps more than 660,000 people every year.
