We exist to improve the lives
of everyone affected by epilepsy

Doncaster College goes for gold

21 May, 2007

Clive Edwards, additional support co-ordinator at Doncaster College, has been honoured with an Epilepsy Action Gold Award for Employment for helping to improve the lives of people with epilepsy.

Epilepsy Action is running the Gold Award for Employment scheme to mark this year’s National Epilepsy Week (May 20-26). The theme for National Epilepsy Week is employment. By running the award, the charity is recognising best practice and honouring employers who show understanding and help people with epilepsy to overcome difficulties in the workplace.

Clive was nominated by his employee, Elaine Daley, who was diagnosed with epilepsy over 10 years ago but only started work at Doncaster College in 2006. She nominated Clive because she feels that by learning how epilepsy affects her and making changes to enable her to carry on working, he has shown real understanding of her condition.

Elaine says: “From day one, Clive has been absolutely fantastic with me. He has made adjustments to my schedule to reduce my workload; he has helped me explain epilepsy to my work colleagues; and he has been understanding and patient with me. I nominated him for this award as a way of thanking him for everything he has done for me.”

Clive was presented with the Epilepsy Gold Award for Employment today by Irene Beevers, chair of Epilepsy Action’s Doncaster Branch, at a special ceremony held at Doncaster College’s Hub Campus to mark the occasion.

Clive says: “I am thrilled to have been nominated for this award and was very proud to accept it today. Elaine is a very able person and with just a few adjustments, we have been able to ensure she can continue to fulfil her potential and make a real contribution to the College.”
