The Doncaster branch of national charity Epilepsy Action is preparing to raise serious ‘wonga’ for the charity by hosting a lakeside walk.
The three mile Epilepsy Action Wonga Walk takes place along around the lake at Rufford Abbey Country Park, Nottinghamshire, on Sunday 13 June during National Epilepsy Week (13-19 June). It is hoped the walk will raise over £600 to help support people with epilepsy as well as raise awareness of the condition.
Branch member Irene Beevers has organised the walk. Irene has epilepsy and has recently been awarded a Branch Member of the Year award for work with the Doncaster Branch of Epilepsy Action.
Irene said: “I organise a walk every year to help raise awareness of epilepsy and the work of the Doncaster Branch of Epilepsy Action. We have arranged a minibus to make it an outing for those who aren’t able to get out very often. We are hoping for a sunny afternoon to enable us to enjoy of lovely afternoon of walking.”
This walk is one of several Wonga Walks taking place across the country to mark Epilepsy Action’s sixtieth anniversary. The charity is hoping the walks will clock up a total distance of 9,240 miles – equivalent to walking to Timbuktu and back. To achieve this target, Epilepsy Action needs 60 walking groups of 25 people, each walking a distance of six miles.
A minibus will take walkers to Rufford County Park at 12.45pm leaving from Waterdale in Doncaster town centre. To find out more about the Epilepsy Action Doncaster Branch Wonga Walk, or to arrange a ride in the minibus, call Irene on 01302 783 599.
