Elizabeth Ellis (Betty), a member of the Scarborough branch of Epilepsy Action, has won a national award in recognition of her work for the UK’s leading epilepsy charity.
The Epilepsy Action Branch Member of the Year Award will be presented to Betty, the Scarborough vice chair, at an Epilepsy Action seminar on Tuesday, May 22 2007 at 7pm at the Westborough Methodist Church, Scarborough.
Betty, who has been a branch member for many years, has been an active fundraiser for Epilepsy Action and shown loyal dedication to the charity and its work.
Annie Thompson, Epilepsy Action’s regional services manager for north-west England and Yorkshire, said: “The Scarborough branch held five collection days during 2006, which Betty never missed. She stayed in position for the entire day and collected more than any other helper at all events. Betty also places static collection tins in shops around the market place and regularly brings full ones to branch meetings.”
Betty is delighted to be receiving this prestigious award and said: “It is a real honour to have been chosen and I would like to thank all who voted for me. Everybody at the Scarborough branch is very friendly and it is good to be involved in such an important cause.”
The seminar, which is open to anyone with an interest in epilepsy, is about the Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS) procedure. A video will be shown followed by a question and answer session. Karen Evans, an epilepsy specialist nurse will also give a presentation on how VNS can help to control seizures.
Anyone who wishes to attend the seminar, or who wants more information about the Scarborough branch, can contact Annie Thompson on 01904 426479.
