A man from Rothwell, Leeds will be taking part in the Great Glen Way challenge from 23-27 August in aid of Epilepsy Action, the UK's largest member-led epilepsy charity.
Simon Hughes is just one of many people setting out on this 73-mile walk over five days. He will be attempting the challenge to raise funds for Epilepsy Action and to raise awareness of epilepsy, a condition that affects around 456,000 people in the UK.
Each of the five days will involve around eight hours of walking, whilst taking in breathtaking views across one of Scotland’s most historically and heritage rich areas.
Simon, who successfully completed Epilepsy Action’s Ben Nevis Challenge last year, said: “I’m looking forward to tackling another great personal challenge whilst raising funds for such a worthy cause. I myself have epilepsy and feel that it is still widely misunderstood by a lot of people. It feels great to be able to help raise awareness of the condition.”
He continued: “I am hoping to raise £600 and look forward to meeting new people whilst having the opportunity to do a walk steeped in wildlife!”
The money raised by Simon will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 731,000 people through a range of services including its advice and information centre, branch network, Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, and award winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
