A Harrogate couple have pledged their support to this year's Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k road race. The event, which takes place on Sunday 21 March, raises money for national charity Epilepsy Action to help support people with epilepsy.
Susie and Ian Holmes, inspired by Eddie Izzard's Sport Relief challenge, have come up with their own 100k challenge. They will run 10 10k runs in 10 days with the annual Epilepsy Action Bradford 10K being their final race.
Susie said: “Ian and I try to run regularly and we aim to run a handful of 10k's each year. We ran the Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k for the first time last year and enjoyed the event. Some friends of ours had entered the 2010 event and we were keen to enter too but we wanted to make it a bit more of a challenge.
“We had both been so impressed by Eddie Izzard's 43 marathons in 51 days for Sport Relief that we thought we would try something along similar lines. Ian had the idea of running 10 10ks with the Bradford run being the last one. Hence the 100k challenge was born. Raising money for Epilepsy Action is close to our hearts as a dear friend of ours who had epilepsy died suddenly in 2002. Ever since then we have been keen to help raise money for people with epilepsy and raise awareness of the condition.”
Katie Stocks, fundraising officer at Epilepsy Action, said: "The support that Susie and Ian are showing Epilepsy Action is absolutely amazing and we wish them the best of luck! The money they raise will be used to support the 456,000 people with epilepsy across the UK."
Entry for the third annual Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k is open until Thursday 18 March. All runners will start and finish the race at the picturesque Centenary Square based in the heart of Bradford city centre. The route for the race is mostly flat and will be closed to all traffic. This means it’s the perfect race for first timers to test their running shoes and for elite runners to achieve their personal best times.
There are fantastic prizes to be won for both males and females placed first, second and third, and for winners of the veterans' categories. A free T-shirt will be provided for anyone who successfully completes the race. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and during the course of the race to keep the runners at their best.
The Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k is supported by Sovereign Health Care, Bradford Council’s ‘B-Active’ campaign, the Bradford Telegraph & Argus, Fitness First and Airedale Athletics.
Entry costs £16, or £14 for runners affiliated to a UK athletics running club. To find out, visit www.epilepsy.org.uk/involved/bradford10k, or call the fundraising team on 0113 210 8800. Entry closes at midnight on Thursday 18 March. Sponsor Susie and Ian at www.justgiving.com/SusieandIanHolmes
