Help burn those Christmas calories with the Bradford 10K charity road race
We all over indulge over the Christmas period, but national charity Epilepsy Action can help the people of Yorkshire shift those extra pounds. Training for the charity's annual Bradford 10K race, on Sunday 21 March, is a perfect way to get fit in the New Year.
The race has been a growing success since it began in 2008. Last year it raised over £25,000 for Epilepsy Action to support people living with epilepsy. This year Bradford hopes to see well over a thousand people taking to its streets to raise vital funds for the charity. Epilepsy affects one in every 131 people in the UK alone and 75 people are diagnosed with the condition every day.
All entrants will start and finish the race at the picturesque Centenary Square based in the heart of Bradford city centre. The route for the race is mostly flat and will be closed to all traffic. This means it’s the perfect race for first timers to test their running shoes and for elite runners to achieve their personal best times.
The 10K run is supported by Bradford Council’s ‘B-Active’ campaign and Airedale Athletics. Airedale Athletics will be running training clinics in the lead up to the event for anyone who feels they need a helping hand. Qualified coaches will be there to solve any problem, whether runners are looking to improve their fitness or simply get some advice.
Katie Stocks, fundraising officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “This is the third year we’ll be running the event and it is now a permanent fixture in the annual race calendar. It is a fantastic event and we hope as many people as possible will sign up. It’s always heart-warming to see the runners on the day, sharing personal stories and putting in their best efforts to raise valuable funds for our charity!"
There are fantastic prizes to be won for both males and females placed first, second and third, and for winners of the veterans' categories. A free T-shirt will be provided for anyone who successfully completes the race. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and during the course of the race to keep our runners at their best.
Entry costs £16, or £14 for runners affiliated to a UK athletics running club. To find out how to take part, visit www.epilepsy.org.uk/involved/bradford10k, or call the fundraising team on 0113 210 8800.
