Huntcliff School pupils win national doodling award

16 June, 2011

Staff and pupils at Huntcliff School, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, have beaten off competition from 220 other schools and colleges to be crowned category winners of National Doodle Day 2011.

Pupils and staff were encouraged to draw a doodle and submit it into the annual National Doodle Day competition. The competition gives schools the chance to win vouchers to spend on equipment and resources, while also raising money for national charity Epilepsy Action.

Huntcliff School’s winning doodle was drawn by year 8 pupil Isabella Lince. The school has been awarded with a £250 voucher to spend on equipment and resources.  The winning doodle is also displayed in the Doodle Hall of Fame on the National Doodle Day website.

Rachael Conisbee, librarian at Huntcliff School, said: “We are delighted to win this award and be a part of National Doodle Day. The competition is a great way for young people to express themselves creatively, while also helping a great cause. The voucher we have won will benefit the whole school. I have also bought Isabella an art pack, with everything she needs to doodle to her heart’s content!”

Philippa Cartwright, fundraising events manager at Epilepsy Action, said: “We’d like to pass on our congratulations and thanks to the staff and students at Huntcliff School. This year’s National Doodle Day has raised almost £19,000 to help support the 456,000 people with epilepsy in the UK. We’re very grateful to Huntcliff School for helping us reach this fantastic figure.”

National Doodle Day 2011 will be held on Friday 2 March. For more information, visit www.nationaldoodleday.org.uk
