Yorkshire Charities Group will be having a double celebration on Yorkshire Day this year, Friday August 1. The group has raised £110,000 from its payroll giving donors and has also reached its 10-year anniversary.
The group is a joint venture between six Yorkshire-based charities to raise money through payroll giving. Supporters can make a regular donation straight from their salary before tax is deducted. This means that for every £10 given, the donor only pays £7.80.
The group consists of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), Epilepsy Action, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), St. Anne's Community Services, St. Gemma's Hospice, and Wheatfield's Hospice. The variety of charities making up the group means that the money raised has benefited a wide range of worthwhile causes, and will continue to do so.
John Preston, BTCV's West Yorkshire manager, said: "Donating to Yorkshire Charities Group means that your money goes towards helping many different causes, which is great if you're having trouble deciding which charity you want to support!"
Anne Reed, community affairs manager at Yorkshire Water, a major Yorkshire employer and a supporter of the group, said: "Payroll giving is an easy way for employees to make a regular contribution to charity. At Yorkshire Water, we ensure that all employees are aware of the benefits of payroll giving and that they have all the information they need to donate money to a charity that is important to them."
Yorkshire Charities Group is now encouraging more Yorkshire employees to provide vital support to these great charities by making a donation through their salary. Employers with an existing payroll giving scheme will be able to provide donation forms. For employers without an existing scheme, donations can be made directly to the group by standing order.
