Time is running out to sign up for the Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k road race on Sunday 25 March. Entries for the event, which raises money for West Yorkshire-based national charity Epilepsy Action, close on Tuesday 20 March. Almost 1,000 people have already accepted the 6.2 mile challenge. Race organisers are also looking for volunteers to marshal at the event.
The runners will follow a 10k route, from Centenary Square to Frizinghall and back. The route is mostly flat and will be closed to all traffic. The course is suitable for first-time runners and elite runners looking to achieve a personal best time.
The race has become a permanent fixture on the charity’s events calendar since it began in 2008. Since then, it has raised over £125,000 for Epilepsy Action and almost 3,500 runners have crossed the finish line.
The run is supported by Airedale Athletics, who will provide runners with training tips and training clinics, supervised by qualified coaches. Nuffield Health, based at Cottingley Manor, Bingley, has also pledged its support. The health, wellbeing and fitness centre will donate prizes in all 12 runner categories, including male, female and veterans. The prizes include free membership packages, sports massages and treatment vouchers. Nuffield Health will also host a pre-race aerobic warm-up for all the runners.
Katie Stocks, fundraising events officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “We’re overwhelmed with how much support the Bradford 10k has received again this year. We’d urge anyone thinking about having a go to sign up before the deadline. And if running isn’t your thing, we’re also looking for volunteers and marshals to help out on the day. Everyone involved in the Bradford 10k, whether running, cheering on runners or marshalling the course, will be making a difference to the lives of the 600,000 people with epilepsy across the UK.”
Entry costs £18, or £16 for runners affiliated to a UK athletics running club. A free T-shirt will be provided to everyone who successfully completes the race. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and during the course of the race.
