We exist to improve the lives
of everyone affected by epilepsy

Letter to editors from Carley Stenson, star of 'Hollyoaks', about Alice's Run (Mytholmroyd)

25 July, 2007

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have been playing a character in Hollyoaks (Stephanie Dean) who has epilepsy for a number of years now, and the experience has taught me a lot about the condition. I never realised how many people are affected by epilepsy and how differently it can affect people. Since learning about epilepsy, I have supported Epilepsy Action, a national charity that gives vital support to people with epilepsy, their friends, families and carers.

On Sunday 2 September, I will be taking part in the second annual Alice’s Run, a 10k multi terrain race held in memory of Alice Redmond. Alice worked at Epilepsy Action during her student placement but died tragically in 2005.

I am a keen runner, but the prospect of taking on the hills of Hebden Bridge has inspired me to put on my running shoes regularly, to make sure I’m ready for the challenge! Last year’s event was a huge success, raising over £12,000 for Epilepsy Action. I would like to encourage your readers to get active for a great cause.

The race will be held in Mytholmroyd and starts at 10.30am at Brearley Field. The route is ideal for experienced runners and first timers like me! There will be a children’s fun run and the event promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family. For more details, log onto www.epilepsy.org.uk/involved/alices-run or call 0113 210 8823.

So come along with your mates and take part in this great event!

Yours faithfully,
Carley Stenson
