A run held in memory of Alice Redmond, a Blackshawhead girl who died tragically in 2005, has raised over £4,500 for national charity Epilepsy Action.
Alice's Run is an annual 10km multi-terrain race that takes place in Mytholmroyd, near Hebden Bridge. This year's run attracted over 350 runners and walkers, who took to the beautiful hills and forests of the Calder Valley to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.
Owen Beilby from Huddersfield was the overall winner, with an impressive running time of 36 minutes and 39 seconds. Jess Reighly from Halifax was fastest in the women's category, with an impressive 45 minutes and 58 seconds.
Philippa Corner, Epilepsy Action's fundraising events manager, said: "Now in its third year, the day was a huge success, attracting more runners than ever before.
"Alice did a year's placement from Leeds Metropolitan University with the Epilepsy Action team. She very sadly died not long after completing her placement. The day's success is a fantastic tribute to her and all the hard work she did to help people with epilepsy during her time at the charity."
The money raised by Alice's Run will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 731,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, advice and information centre, branch network and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
