A stampede of reindeer is set to take over Saltaire this festive season, as national charity Epilepsy Action launches its first ever Reindeer Stampede. The 5k fun run will raise funds to support almost half a million people affected by epilepsy in the UK.
The event, on Sunday 12 December, will take hundreds of ‘reindeer’ around a circular 5k route in Roberts Park, Saltaire. The run is open to anyone aged eight and upwards and runners will be encouraged to don reindeer antlers to take part. Children under the age of eight can also take part in their very own mini Reindeer Stampede.
Philippa Cartwright, fundraising events manager at Epilepsy Action, said: "This is the first time we’ve done this event and we really hope as many people as possible will get involved. The event is suitable for all ages and abilities and participants can run, walk or jog the course, making it a great seasonal day out for the whole family. It also provides a great opportunity for runners training for long distance running events to get some practice in before the festive break. The money raised at this event will make a huge difference to the lives of people affected by epilepsy."
Entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for children under 15. Reindeer antlers can be bought from Epilepsy Action for £2.50. All finishers will receive a medal and mince pie as they cross the finish line.
