A Rotherham woman, who has epilepsy, is preparing to lace up her running shoes to complete this year’s Liverpool Santa Dash to raise vital funds for Epilepsy Action. Alison Burgin will take part in the 5k festive challenge along with 8,000 others in Liverpool city centre on Sunday 2 December. Epilepsy Action provides advice and support to the 600,000 people with epilepsy in the UK.
Alison, 38, has had uncontrolled epilepsy for 22 years. She said: “The run will be a challenge, but also good fun and it is all for a great cause. Epilepsy Action has given me lots of information over the years and recently advised me on insurance for when I travel.”
The money Alison raises will help to support Epilepsy Action’s work. The charity campaigns to improve epilepsy services and raise awareness of epilepsy. It also provides a national network of support groups, funds a specialist nurse scheme, holds regular regional conferences and has a freephone and email helpline.
Epilepsy affects one in every 103 people in the UK alone and 87 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Last year Epilepsy Action directly helped 1.1 million people through its range of services.
