A Scarborough pub is hosting a music weekender to raise money for Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation.
The three-day music event takes place from 30 July-1 August at the New Tavern, Falsgrave. The inspiration for the event came from the fact that several of the regulars at the New Tavern have epilepsy, as well as one of the bar staff.
Several local bands and acoustic performers, including The Jaw-Line of Julianne Moore, Sofa Junkies, Black Paper Cats and Property of Dave, will take to the stage for the pirate-themed event. There will also be an open-mic acoustic session on the Sunday and anyone is welcome to perform. All of the bands and performers are playing for free to help support people with epilepsy.
Karen Eckersall, landlady at the New Tavern, said: “We have several people in the pub who have been affected by epilepsy, including one of our staff members. We really wanted to put on this event to raise awareness of epilepsy and show it’s nothing to be scared of and doesn’t have to stop people living life to the full.
“We’re really grateful to all the fantastic bands and performers who will be playing over the weekend and are giving their time for free. It should be a fantastic weekend, so please come down and support us and Epilepsy Action. We’re also having a pirate theme so anyone who wants to come in fancy dress is more than welcome!”
The New Tavern’s music weekender takes place from 4.00pm each day from Friday 30 July and Sunday 1 August. Entry is free with donations to Epilepsy Action welcome. The New Tavern will also donate a percentage of their proceeds over the weekend to the charity. For more information, contact Karen at the New Tavern on 01723 341 899 or us@gingerdogmanagement.com
Karen is also appealing for pirate boats for her event, so anyone who can help is asked to call her.
The money raised from the New Tavern’s music weekender will help fund the vital advice and information services provided by Epilepsy Action. Last year alone the organisation directly helped over 688,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050 and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
