8 March, 2011

Leeds-based national charity Epilepsy Action has been chosen as one of three charities to benefit from £50,000 worth of support from London agency Just:: Health PR. The charity won the pro-bono support as part of the agency’s A Just:: Cause – Pitching for Partnership charity initiative launched in 2010.Epilepsy Action was among 10 finalists invited to pitch to a panel of PR professionals and journalists in November. The agency’s support will be used as part of Epilepsy Action’s campaign to raise awareness of epilepsy, a condition which affects 456,000 people in the UK. The campaign will teach members of the public about epilepsy, how to recognise seizures and the correct first aid procedures. Aimee Gee, PR and campaigns manager at Epilepsy Action, said: “We are thrilled to have won this support for our campaign. It will be fantastic for us to draw on the experience and knowledge of such a professional agency. With their help, we hope we can move epilepsy up the agenda and ensure we raise as much awareness of the condition as possible.” Jennie Talman, Managing Director of Just:: Health PR, said: “We were really impressed with the proposal submitted by Epilepsy Action and are looking forward to partnering with them on this worthwhile campaign.”The Alzheimer’s Society and the Meningitis Trust also won support as part of the initiative. Epilepsy Action is the largest member-led epilepsy organisation in the UK. Last year the charity directly helped over 845,000 people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, branch network, specialist nurse scheme and award-winning website, www.epilepsy.org.uk
