Epilepsy Narratives: the differences in being different

Dee Snape

Carrying out research as part of a PhD at the University of Liverpool.

By exploring the nature of having epilepsy and issues of related stigma from the perspective of people with epilepsy (PWE), this qualitative study seeks to enhance understanding about the impact of this condition on daily living.

A series of life history interviews are being conducted with participants attending epilepsy out patient clinics; interview transcripts are analysed for content and themes to identify similarities and differences between the stories provided.

The overall aim is to raise awareness and understanding about the experience of living with epilepsy, reveal patient needs and identify outcomes that have the potential to promote a more holistic approach to the care of PWE.
