We exist to improve the lives
of everyone affected by epilepsy

Seizure reviewers

Seizure reviewers are a group of people with epilepsy or those who have a personal connection to the condition. Reviewers read summaries of the articles and comment. Anyone who is interested can become a reviewer.

What will I be asked to do?

As a reviewer, you will send you a link to the Seizure website as soon as the issue is published online. You can then read the short summaries of the Regular Articles and select the two you think are best and briefly say why. See a recent issue of Seizure.

If you are interested, there is also the opportunity to write an occasional short review of a chosen article. We will ask you to:

  • summarise the panel’s comments, and
  • add your own views on the research. We will supply the full article for you.

How much time is involved?

There are eight to ten Regular Articles in each issue. It should take no longer than one hour to review the previews and comment. You will have 10 days to do this. If you would like to write a review, then this may take one to two hours at the most.

Do I have to review every issue?

It doesn’t matter if you are not able to take part each time. We realise that people have busy lives and other commitments. We are happy if you contribute when you can.

If I don’t want to become a Seizure Reviewer, can I still comment on articles?

If you would prefer not to become a Seizure Reviewer, you can still tell us what you think about the articles. There will be a comment box on the website. And you can vote for Readers’ Choice

Are there any other ways I can get involved in research?

You could become a research volunteer. LINK Among other things, you would have the opportunity to:

  • comment on applications for Epilepsy Action research grants,
  • take part in consultations for external researchers, and
  • help develop research materials, such as surveys and interview guides.
