Volunteer training programme
“I learned fantastic epilepsy knowledge, and meeting other people with the same ambition. Thank you for such an interesting time!”
Joanna, volunteer, West Yorkshire
Training programme
The course lasts for 16 weeks and includes an initial introduction on the first training day, 12 weeks distance learning, then a second day of training. You will have a chance to meet up with other people who are interested in the volunteering course, meet up with your local regional services manager from Epilepsy Action, existing volunteers and the conference and volunteer co-ordinator!
What will I be studying?
You will learn about how Epilepsy Action works, improve your communication and presentation skills, and find out further information on epilepsy. You will receive a training pack showing the questions related to each unit, a copy of the very popular “Right Stuff” DVD, all the necessary epilepsy information leaflets and a book called “Epilepsy at your fingertips”.
How will I be assessed?
You will need to complete the distance learning units on the origins and causes of epilepsy, diagnosis, types of seizures, seizure control and epilepsy management. We also assess you on your style of presentation and how you communicate with people. We’ll then send you an assignment form for you to put into your personal development file.
Who is the course accredited by?
As recognition of the work and achievements for the course, an external awarding body, the Open College Network (OCN) offers level 2 accreditation (GCSE level). This can be achieved once all the units have been completed. A credit certificate from OCN will then be sent to you directly.
