Epilepsy Action local branches
Epilepsy Action has an extensive network of branches throughout the UK which provide local support to people with epilepsy, their family and friends and professional carers. Run by volunteers, most branches hold regular meetings and offer a mixture of social events and informative talks and discussions. For many of us with active epilepsy a sense of isolation and a lack of understanding can be a problem. Attending local branch meetings offers the opportunity to talk to people who understand these problems as well as a chance to help raise awareness of epilepsy in the local community. For people who feel they would like one to one support Epilepsy Action has a network of Accredited Volunteers who are often attached to our local branches. Another important role of the branches is to raise much needed funds for Epilepsy Action. Our work is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions and without that generosity Epilepsy Action would cease to exist. Branches organise a wide variety of fundraising events, helping Epilepsy Action to continue its vital work. Some branches have been set up by parents of children with epilepsy specifically to provide mutual support and to raise awareness of their particular problems, and are known as PACE (Parents and Carers of Children with Epilepsy) groups. The groups provide a valuable source of information and give the parents a louder voice in their local community. If you would like advice or information on epilepsy, then please contact our freephone helpline or email helpline. Throughout the year, a number of regional conferences for people with epilepsy and their families take place around the UK. Find out if there is one of interest to you.
