Epilepsy Helpline and Language Line
(UK residents only)

Telephone Helpline

People with epilepsy and their families who needs advice and information in languages other then English can do this by using our Language Line service.

In partnership with the organisation Language Line, telephone advice and information is available in 150 languages.

How Does It Work?

  • The caller dials the Epilepsy Helpline - 0808 800 5050 - open from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm on Fridays.
  • They will need to tell the Advice and Information Officer which language they need. If they do not have sufficient English to do that, they could ask someone to make the first contact for them.
  • The Advice and Information Officer will ask the caller for their name and telephone number and confirm the language required.
  • The Advice and Information Officer will ask the caller to put down the receiver.
  • The caller will then receive a call from the interpreter who will introduce the Advice and Information Officer to them.
  • The caller and Advice and Information Officer are then able to talk ‘directly’ to each other, through the interpreter.

What about quality?

All Language Line interpreters are highly qualified in their field. Their professionalism means that they will interpret exactly what is spoken, without any distortion. Language Line interpreters are specifically trained in telephone interpreting.

What about confidentiality?

All Language Line interpreters sign confidentiality agreements. In addition, the Epilepsy Helpline is a totally confidential service.

The Language Line service is currently only available to UK residents.
