in association with InsureandGo
Epilepsy Action is aware that, very often, finding an insurance policy which covers epilepsy-related incidents and is competitively priced can be difficult.
Epilepsy Action in association with InsureandGo have been working on a policy which we believe offers quality cover at a competitive price for people with epilepsy.
To get a quote call our dedicated team at InsureandGo on 0844 888 3380.
Please Note: This is an exclusive product for InsureandGo in association with Epilepsy Action and is not available through the main InsureandGo number and is only available by calling 0844 888 3380.
InsureandGo are the only travel insurance providers whose dedicated call centre team has received training from an Epilepsy Action Accredited Volunteer.
"I would just like to say thank you to all at Epilepsy Action. I have been searching for a decent price on travel insurance for ages, without much luck due to my epilepsy- until I found your connection with InsureandGo. It was nice to speak to an insurer who really understood the risks of the different types of epilepsy – rather than adding a blanket extra lump of premium as soon as you even mention epilepsy. Cheers!!" - Mr Brooker

I have had only a handful of grand mal seizures in the ten years up to and since the diagnosis of a benign brain tumour. Although unfortunately two of these were in the past size months, I was surprised to be quoted last night £140 for cover for a single, brief trip to Europe. (The quote was reduced to £20 if I excluded my epilepsy.) Thankfully, I shopped around today and have secured almost identical cover (including my epilepsy) for £16. The insurer - Columbus Direct. I'm not alone - my dad's partner, who recently had a minor stroke, also benefitted from a more proportionate approach to risk.
Insure and go isnt that competitive, for my epilepsy cover they offered me a premium of around 100 pounds for two weeks in thailand, medici travel on the other hand offered me 53 pounds.
Unfortunately they would not cover Hannah's epilepsy so went to 'It's So Easy' instead. They covered it fine, single trip for 1 adult and 2 kids (1 with epilepsy) covered £57
I've just got a quote for travel insurance and I am totally shocked with the quote. The quote is nearly 4 times the amount I paid last year with the same travel insurance company with. Last year I went to Morocco and this year I'm going to Turkey. I haven't had a seizure for over 4 years. A stroke that I had over 25 years ago caused me to become epileptic. The only changes to my health is that I am now suffering from depression!!! I'm already on a tight budget with this holiday. I just don't know what to do about my travel insurance
I have just finshed insuring my family for a trip to France with Insure&Go. My 4 year old son has had Epilepsy for nearly 2 years and has 3 to 5 petit-mal / head drop seizures a day, but fortunately has not had a tonic-clonic seizure for over a year. Craig at Insure&Go was very professional and knowlegable on Epilepsy and made the whole process very easy. My son is not on any medication as he is on a Ketogenic diet, all which I explained to Craig. The travel insurance policy was very reasonable priced and specifically covers my son's condition. Thanks Craig and Insure&Go, great service. Adrian
Thanks. This is really good its premiums are half the price and the girl who served was very polite.
I just called insureandgo via Epilepsy Action and had a number of problems - none of these were caused by insureandgo, mostly by my rubbish phone! The 1st guy I spoke to was lovely, had a slight problem with his computer so arranged to call me back to save my costs. My phone didn't ring so he left a message. I returned their call and spoke to a lady who was lovely, friendly, spoke as quickly as possible to save my costs, and I ended the conversation with a perfectly reasonable quote. I called again to ask if it covered repatriation to another equally friendly and efficient phone-person.
In August '09 I insured myself with insureandgo for a trip to India. This was lucky as I was very ill and in hospital and sent back home to England within 7 days! I called them upon my return - have yet to officially claim - and they said that once you lodge the claim on the phone you can take your time with returning the documentation to them. By far the nicest, easiest insurance company I've ever used!
Thankyou Epilepsy Action. I have been searching for travel insurance that will cover my sons' epilepsy without it costing the Earth. All websites I have been on have doubled the premium when you mention epilepsy. Your link with insureandgo has actually worked out cheaper for us than all of the other websites. The man I spoke to was very pleasant and understanding - very impressed with the service. Thanks again.
I too have had a bad experience, and found out as my son has cryptogenic epilepsy and been admitted in hospital 6 times over the past year, that they will not cover him for his epilepsy, which was the reason i called thinking they would provide insurance, now left thoroughly disappointed. Now left wondering where to go for cover, any ideas for those who could not get cover?
I had a similar experience to Michelle. I was disappointed that although I called an insurer endorsed by Epilepsy Action, my quote had a substantial premium added because I had epilepsy. I can confirm that I did call the hotline number recommended - 0884 888 3380.
Regarding difficulty in getting annual travel insurance for epileptics, I have been buying an annual travel insurance policy for my epileptic son for some years from Flexicover. You have to have a medical endorsement which costs quite a bit more.
The recommended travel insurance did not cater straightforwardly for ABSENCE EPILEPSY, not distinguishing this from other seizure types. They were not willing to insure our daughter for a trip this year, on the basis that our daughter loses consciousness many times every day despite it only being for seconds (of absence) each time. But we have found a company, Medici Travel, that specifically distinguishes between "petit mal / absence seizures" and "other seizure types". They were happy to insure us, and it was very cheap - £37 compared with the next cheapest I could find ..... which was £1730!!!! Of course, I can't vouch for the quality of Medici, but we feel reassured that we have found some insurance for our daughter, after the frustration of seeing most providers failing to distinguish between the different types of seizures.
Tried to get travel insurance with insure and go but they said they could not give the 10% discount without a promotion code. I telephoned the number on shown on epilepsy action web site page- not impressed. Can anybody recommend an alternative insurance company?
I have recently also been having problems getting multi trip cover from several comapanies. I have controlled epilepsy which was caused by a sub arachnoid haemorrhage 10 years ago and it is not always the epilepsy which incurs the extra cost. One example is applying for the same policy which we took out last year with Axa for £9.34 extra has this year gone upto £85.08. I cannot see the justification for this, but several companies said that policies had changed since lat year. I would be grateful if anyone can give details of a multi trip policy that does not attached this 'penalty' clause.
My wife has had cover from this company before without any problem when we went to America. What I am concerned about is that the price goes up by almost 100 o/o .The rest of the family who go have to pay more as you cant buy online.I think that this is unfair and disciminates against the rest of the family. You also have to be aware the price initially quoted wll cover you but not for your epilepsy ,that is extra. So a trip to India costing £98 for three when phoning(£78 gold cover on line)for two weeks shoots up to £185 if you want medical treatment abroad. My wife has had many an eventful times in hospitals so we will definately be paying for the additional cover. What I would like to see is an ability to book on line and then you phone for a separate insurance for your loved one.
Hi Kimberly - did you definetly get the same insurance from the same location as the other users - as other users are having problems getting more than single trip insurance days after you appear to have got yours. I'm going to apply with them tomorrow for multitrip.... Will let you know how I get on.
i thought great insurance that covers for epilepsy but only covers for a single trip....can people with Epilepsy not go away more than once a year....???
we have the same problem this company will not insure my wife as she has active epilepsy so we are still looking for a company that will. i hope epilepsy action will find a company that will insure epileptics to travel abroad in the near future.
Not impressed! Spoke with an advisor who seemed unsure of what the policy covered; she offered me a bolt-on extra for £7.50 but didn't really know what it was far. More annoying though was giving me an initial quote, then after a long delay and calling me back (the underwriters were confused about another, unrelated medical condition) she announced that my epilepsy caused a further £18 or so to be added to the premium, but could not explain how this figure had been reached.
Overall, I felt the service was not as accommodating to my epilepsy as I had hoped, so I have now purchased cover from Able2Travel who were far more helpful and understanding.
I have just booked my travel insurance with Insure and Go. I was extremely impressed with the level of service provided. I was given various options and quotes to fit my needs in a very friendly and relaxed manner. And my quote was a great surprise! The price for YEAR cover was half the price of SINGLE trip cover quoted through other insurance companies, and that is without the 10% discount!
I would definitely recommend Insure and Go.
I have just been informed by Insureandgo that they cannot insure my son who has been seizure free for 12 months.
very disappointing.
I have just booked holiday insurance with the isure n go number on this website.
The guy who served me was great, the quote was half the price of any other insurance quotes I could get, and the whole experience was painless.
Ten times better than of the the other phone calls I'd made for a quote.
Would definitely reccommend
Hello, I'm very pleased with the Insure&Go quote for a single trip - but agree that a Multi-Trip Policy would be preferable. We had our Family Multi-Trip Policy renewal for epilepsy and cerebral palsy coverage declined by Tesco Travel Insurance after being happy customers for three years (without makng any claims due to those conditions) so I am shopping around for another one. The Tesco policy cost around £130 per year. The renewal quote without the coverage for epilepsy and cerebral palsy was £72. Tesco said they changed their regulations in the past 12 months and no longer insure these conditions.
Absolutely excellent service.
Low cost, helpful. Much cheaper than insuring with the travel company and without the exclusions.
Highly recommended!
I have just organised travel insurance to Florida for my daughter. In the past the cost has been in the hundreds and I was delighted to be given a quote less than HALF that! The girl on the phone was very friendly and efficient and the whole process took less than 15 mins. Life with special needs is difficult enough, so it is very refreshing to have some aspect made easier for us. Well done on this arrangement with InsureandGo
I've just booked my holiday insurance through this system and wanted to say thanks very much! It was half the price of the company I've previously been using.
Hi Michelle,
We're sorry you had a disappointing experience. Most of the feedback we've had has been positive but we are working constantly to improve things across the industry and sometimes there are cases that for one reason or another can't be covered. Can you make sure you called the Epilepsy Action number (0844 888 3380) as the insurance offered here is different from the general number. Some people have been turned down unnecessarily after calling the main line. I have tried to email you but your address didn't work. If you would like me to help further, can you get in touch with me on marketing@epilepsy.org.uk or 0808 800 5050?
Thanks

Epilepsy Action
I have just asked for a quote and been advised that my daughters epilepsy cannot be covered with the insurance. Their understanding of epilepsy was appalling. My daughter has absence seizures however I was advised that this comes under general epilepsy. Therefore as she has loads of seizures a day they would not give her medical cover. I am most disappointed as this company is endorsed by epilepsy action.
Hi Amy,
Thanks for your comment, Multi-trip travel and Annual travel insurance is something that we will be working on with InsureandGo in the very near future once the new insurance policy has settled in. We are aware it's an issue and have had quite a few enquiries about it so hope to have something in place as soon as possible.

have just called for a quote from Insure and Go- and was informed travel insurance is only available on a trip by trip basis, NOT multi-trip, yearly coverage. Quite inconvenient for globetrotters like us- disappointed, especially as travel insurance choices for people with epilepsy is so small
