Epilepsy training for professionals

During 2010, our website was visited by nearly one million people. This included members of the public, health professionals, teachers, students, employers and international clients.

Managing risks in people with epilepsy, half-day workshop for health professionals

  • Tullyglass House Hotel, Ballymena, Northern Ireland.
  • 'Managing Risk in People with Epilepsy' has been approved by the Federation of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom for 4 category 1 (external) CPD credit(s).
  • Tickets cost £45 (or £40 for professional members of Epilepsy Action). This includes refreshments, and a buffet lunch.

This half-day event is open to anyone UK-wide with a professional interest in epilepsy. It is targeted at GPs, practice nurses, community nurses and midwives. This event will help professionals explore the risks for people living with epilepsy from diagnosis. It will also look at how health professionals can support the patient to evaluate risks associated with daily living and social tasks – for example, cooking, bathing, swimming, horse riding. There are also risk factors associated with prescribing for individual patient groups, and associated with surgery.

Highlights will include:

  • Understanding of the complex needs of medically managing a person with epilepsy
  • Assessing risk factors associated with prescribing for individual patient groups
  • Understanding risk factors associated with surgery as a treatment for people with epilepsy
  • Exploring the social aspects of living with epilepsy
  • Accessing support through Epilepsy Action Northern Ireland

The courses will cover a wide range of issues including types of epilepsy and seizure classification; causes and triggers of epilepsy; first aid; how epilepsy can affect lifestyle, self esteem and independence; driving regulations; employment issues; medication and individualised care plans.

9th National Neuroscience Conference: Epilepsy in Children 2012

After the success of the last 8 years, we are delighted to announce our 9th national neuroscience conference ‘Epilepsy in Children’, in association with British Journal of Hospital Medicine and British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing. This conference has been carefully designed to provide participants with updates on the current issues and latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of paediatric epilepsy.

It will provide an excellent opportunity for specialists and trainees in neurology, neurosurgery and paediatrics, as well as GPs and specialist nurses, to update and extend their knowledge.
