Enabling people with long term conditions

- The aim of this meeting is to provide a practical, hands on approach to how telecare and associated technologies can positively impact on the delivery of health and social care services in the UK. In addition to keynote presentations there will be a number of “showcases” to demonstrate how telecare, as part of a community rehabilitation package, can help people suffering from long term neurological conditions achieve a higher level of personal and/or social function.

Epilepsy in Later life : Guiding good pratice

The aim of this conference is to bring together clinicians who encounter older patients with proven or suspected epilepsy and gather feedback on proposed guidance for the diagnosis, referral and management of people with epilepsy in later life. This feedback will help to shape the final content of the resulting Good Practice Guide. Confirmed speakers include Professor Martin Brodie, Dr Susan Duncan, Dr John-Paul Leach, Dr Damien Read, Dr Rod Duncan, Professor Martin Dennis, Dr Linda Gerrie, and Dr Andrew Elder.

Less than half of patients with active epilepsy in the United States are informed by their doctors about treatment options, according to a survey by the American Epilepsy Society and the Epilepsy Foundation.
Asking people who have partial seizures how often they have seizures does not appear to provide an accurate count, according to a report in the journal Archives of Neurology.
