Council of Management meeting - July 2013

16 July 2013

The Council of Management met on 16 July. This was the first Council meeting after the Association’s AGM and members were pleased to welcome Jenny Jamnadas-Khoda to her first meeting.

The Council elected its new Officers who are as follows: - Chair of the Council of Management – Beryl Sharlot; vice Chair – Ian Walker; Honorary Treasurer – June Massey

A great deal of the meeting was spent reviewing the charity’s financial position and its future prospects. Income for the year has held up reasonably well across most sectors but there are two important exceptions. Income from legacies is now anticipated to produce no more than £300,000 this year, which is half what was originally expected. Also community fundraising has not delivered its planned results and is likely to generate £296,000 less money than was budgeted for. The effect of these two shortfalls in income will increase the size of the expected deficit to about £865,000 this year.

The charity does have more than enough money in reserve to cover this deficit in 2013; however this is not something that can be sustained in the longer term. The Council has therefore decided to prepare now a revenue budget for 2014 that will aim to roughly balance income and expenditure. To do this will require some significant cost reductions and plans to achieve this are now being developed.

The next meeting of the Council is scheduled to take place on 8 October 2013.
