I was a student nurse on a labour ward when I had my first fit. As I was undiagnosed and uncontrolled it was thought best I didn't hold the babies for fear of dropping them.I had up until that moment, as a woman, always taken having children for granted. Now I was faced with the idea that if I couldn't even hold other peoples' children, would I ever be able to have my own?

I now know it isn't necessarily a problem and in a way I'm grateful to epilepsy for teaching me that life should be lived and nothing should ever be taken for granted.
