Jūratė Stauskaitė is a famous Lithuanian artist. She was born in Kaunas in 1947. Since 1971, when she graduated from the Lithuania Art Academy (formerly known as Vilnius Art Institute), she has produced paintings, graphic art and book illustrations,. She has also published on art and art education. She is the director of the first private art school in Lithuania. Jūratė has organized more than 15 personal and participated in more than 20 group exhibitions around the world. Her works have been exhibited in many EU countries, the UK, Brasil, Japan, Argentina, Egypt, Norway, Australia and Canada.
Her works have been acquired by a number of museums including the National Art Museum (Vilnius, Lithuania), M.K. Ciurlionis Museum (Kaunas, Lithuania), the Museum of Modern Art (Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany), the National Gallery of the Czeck Republic in Prague, the Museum of Modern Art in New Orleans (USA) and the NYC Public Library (USA). In 2001 she was awarded the honorable statue of St. Kristofor of the Vilnius municipality and in 2003 she was awarded the order of the Lithuanian Duke Vytautas.
