Vanessa Fanuele

‘Un altra storia’

Vanessa Fanuele is part of a long tradition of creating composite monsters which, in antiquity, were understood as “what cuts, is an eye-catcher, provokes admiration, astonishment, awe of the Gods” and always as symbolic of otherness. By a sort of “interior archeology” her protean work questions elements like femininity, memory or mental spaces: by folding-unfolding, treating-mistreating, physically crushing her artwork, memories of fragments of identity are revealed, Pandora’s box might open. With a touch of melancholy, Vanessa Fanuele’s work resonates with those of Buffon, “le douanier Rousseau” or Peter Doig.
