We fight to improve the lives
of everyone affected by epilepsy

Albert and Kitty, by Saffron

This poem was an entry in Epilepsy Today's first-ever festive poetry contest: Outside the lines.

I am married with three children. I work as a lunchtime supervisor. I have epilepsy and so does my eldest daughter. My youngest daughter has special needs and poetry is a fabulous outlet and hobby of mine.

Albert and Kitty

Albert and Kitty were two people but they were like one
They were my Nan and Grandad and I loved them like the day loved the sun
I would go round once a week and we’d have lamb chops for our tea
I hold those times so dear, so close in memory!

We would sit, chat and laugh, catch up on the talk of the town
Then we’d try to beat the contestants as we watched Richard Whiteley on Countdown
After, as we sipped our drinks, my Grandad would tell stories of the war
I was always amazed and astounded, he was such a brave man, that’s for sure!

Albert and Kitty we all miss you, but we know you are watching from above
We can all feel your spirit, we can all feel your love
And once a week instead of going round to your house for my tea
I look up at the stars and smile, knowing that you’re both together and happy!
