Alan Milburn calls on public for views on creating 21st century NHS

15 May, 2000

Alan Milburn, Secretary of State for Health, has invited patients and the public to have their say on creating a twenty-first century NHS today.

The intention is that every member of NHS staff, together with patients and the public, will have an opportunity to join in and have their say in creating a modern NHS fit for the twenty-first century.

The strategy includes:

  • A dedicated website for the public and patients to express their views
  • A series of focus groups to explore with members of the public from all age ranges and backgrounds their priorities for improving the NHS.
  • Two public forums which will be held in Leeds on 20 May and London on 3 June. Each will bring together 100 people where they will have more time and information to consider issues and make their recommendations for the NHS.

Mr Milburn said, " We have developed a comprehensive strategy to ensure that every member of NHS staff, together with patients and the public will have the opportunity to have their say".
