BEA's online community, BEA-Connect, has been nominated in the New Statesman and BT New Media Awards 2001
The awards focus national attention on the growing use of new media and how it impacts on a wide range of issues. In its third year, the awards this year focus on 'Digital Divide' issues paying special attention to initiatives that involve measures to ensure certain sections of society do not miss out on the benefits of new media access.
The Online Communities award for which BEA-Connect has been nominated looks at the use of the internet to enable individuals and organisations with shared interests to shrink any physical distances that may separate them.
The award organisers comment:
"Online communities build trust and richer communications between disparate groups. This award is open to any online community that currently uses new media technologies to further their aims more effectively, thereby enhancing and strengthening society."
BEA-Connect, our online community for people with epilepsy or their carers has recently welcomed its fie hundredth member. The community provides support while increasing members contact with others and reducing the sense of isolation, in a safe and anonymous environment.
