Epilim gastro-resistant tablets stock in the UK

19 Mar 2019

There has been a temporary shortage of Epilim (sodium valproate) gastro-resistant tablets in the UK. Sanofi has told us the 200mg tablets should be back with wholesalers this week. The 500mg tablets are expected to be with wholesalers in the week beginning 25 March 2019. The exact date may vary according to where you live and which wholesalers your pharmacy uses.

If your pharmacist can’t get your usual formulation and dose of Epilim before you run out, your doctor might prescribe you a different formulation (for example Epilim liquid or syrup). This may mean you need to take your medicine more or less frequently. Your pharmacist should make this clear if this is the case. Alternatively, your doctor might prescribe you a different manufacturer’s version of sodium valproate.

If you have any questions about taking a different formulation or version of your medicine, speak to your GP, epilepsy specialist or epilepsy specialist nurse.

Sanofi is still experiencing low stock with some of its valproate medicines but has assured us that they are working to manage the situation. Read Sanofi’s statement on Epilim stock levels.
