Health minister launches new NHS Direct information points

24 Oct 2000

Gisela Stuart, Health Minister, this week announced the launch of new NHS Direct information points designed to give patients instant free access to key health information.

The information kiosks will be located in easily accessible public places including supermarkets, pharmacies, walk-in centres and A&E departments. Several universities and sixth form colleges across the country will also have NHS Direct terminals, as well as the Albert Docks, in Liverpool, and the Dover ferry terminal to provide an invaluable source of health information for people away from home on their holiday.

Each information point will allow people who are not connected to the internet to gain immediate access to the information contained on the NHS Direct On-line website. Launched last year, NHS Direct On-line is the first ever comprehensive gate-way to health information in the UK.
