Keppra included in Australian pharmaceutical benefits scheme

12 August, 2003

A number of additional medicines will be available on the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), including the anti-epileptic drug Keppra (levetiracetam).

Keppra will be available on the PBS in addition to a wide range of anti-epileptic drugs already available through the Scheme. Keppra is to be listed for the treatment of partial epileptic seizures which are not controlled satisfactorily by other anti-epileptic drugs.

The Minister for Health and Ageing, Senator Kay Patterson, said:

"The Government recognises the importance of ensuring patients with epilepsy have the best possible access to up-to-date and affordable medical and pharmaceutical treatments. Patients who feel they may qualify for treatment with any of these new listings should discuss this with their doctor".
