Legal action over Epilim

24 April, 2007

Parents including mothers who were prescribed a drug they claim
caused their children to be born disabled are bringing group action
against its manufacturers. Sanofi-Synthelabo market sodium valproate as
Epilim.

The case is due to go to trial in 2008.

When the
Legal Services Commission withdrew public funding for the case in July
2006, Irwin Mitchell, the solicitors dealing with the case, applied for
a judicial review. The Legal Services Commission now has to decide
whether to reinstate funding for the case. They will make the decision
on 10 May 2007.

The cut-off date for families to
register claims for compensation has been extended to 31 May 2007. If
you would like more information about the case or would like to
register as a claimant please contact David Body at Irwin Mitchell
Solicitors on 0870 1500 100.
