Epilepsy Action Helping Hands Awards - Sienna Appleby

26 Aug 2020

Sienna has been awarded a Helping Hands award for the fantastic support she gives to her older sister, who has severe epilepsy and complex needs.

To an 8-year-old girl, like Sienna, it can be hard to watch a loved one regularly experience seizures and become agitated and confused. Sienna takes it all in her stride and leaves her sister to come round and get back to a state of calm.

This has a considerable impact on Sienna’s life but every day she continues to accommodate her sister, helping to monitor and care for her on a daily basis.

Their mum Dee said: “Sienna does so much each day and this thankless job goes unnoticed by the outside world. She does get upset sometimes and finds it difficult, yet she is willing to understand. Her sister cannot help how she is or the condition she has, and Sienna takes it all on the chin. She is a remarkable little girl, who doesn't even know the difference she makes to her sister's life. I would want to tell her how proud we are of her.”
