The picture shows the neck of a 19-string traditional Vilayat Khan sitar. The parts in composition are ‘mogara’, the two posts that raise the strings above the neck, and ‘parda’, the wire frets on the sitar. The name ‘mogara’ literally means ‘jasmine’, because the posts somewhat resemble the blossom of the mogara. These posts are placed in holes that are drilled in the side of the neck of the sitar.
