Bradford 10k full statement

Following the recent cancellation of several mass-participation events, this year's Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k is going virtual!

With social distancing measures (of some form) in place for the foreseeable future, it is simply not possible to host a mass-participation event while adhering to these measures. With the safety of runners, volunteers and the wider community as our priority, we hope that everyone will understand why this decision has been made.

The good news is that we have been working hard on an alternative and I am delighted to announce that all our registered runners can still take part – just virtually.

This means anyone currently registered can still take part safely by running their own 10k route. All 2,670 runners are automatically eligible to take part in the virtual event and have from now until Sunday 6 September to submit their time. All registered runners will also be offered 50% off their entry fee and priority entry for the next Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k.

Everyone who submits their time will receive their finisher's t-shirt and medal in the post free of charge. A live results table will be posted online and updated regularly, with prizes available in all the usual prize categories.

As a not-for-profit event, the money raised goes towards helping to improve the lives of everyone affected by epilepsy. As someone who has personally benefited from this support, I can't stress enough how important it is. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic means that as a charity we could lose as much as 40% of our income this year. We need everyone's support now more than ever.

There are alternative options available for those who would prefer not to take part. The deadline for taking up one of these options is Wednesday 1 July. Full details are available in the FAQs

When the time is right, I look forward to welcoming everyone safely back to Bradford City Centre for our biggest and best race yet. In the meantime, good luck to all our virtual Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k runners!

Stay safe and best wishes

Carl Foster
Race Director
