Keighley family tee-off for epilepsy charity in memory of son

A Keighley man and his family have raised over £1,000 for Leeds-based national charity Epilepsy Action, in memory of their son.

Joseph Mancakas organised the fourth annual Memorial Golf Day on Saturday 21 July at Riddlesden Golf Club in memory of his son René. René had epilepsy and died in 2008, aged 36, after an epileptic seizure. Along with his father Joseph, René was a keen golfer. Since the event began, the Mancakas family has raised over £4,000 for Epilepsy Action.

Darlington event to support people with epilepsy

Epilepsy Action, the UK’s largest member-led epilepsy organisation, is hosting a seminar for anyone with an interest in epilepsy.

The seminar will take place on Saturday 8 September, from 1.00pm to 3.30pm, at The Dolphin Centre, Horsemarket, Darlington.

Speakers include Catherine Elliott, specialist epilepsy nurse, from James Cook Hospital, Middlesborough. She will be speaking about her work as an epilepsy nurse. Epilepsy Action’s campaigns and policy officer for women and welfare, Nicole Crosby-McKenna, will be speaking about epilepsy, sex and relationships.
