A joint project to create the first ever ‘national’ epilepsy specialist nurse has been announced.
The ‘super nurse’ is the brainchild of innovative non-profit organisation Neurological Commissioning Support (NCS) – who have identified the need for a national role to support commissioning for epilepsy.
Leading epilepsy charity Epilepsy Action has welcomed the publication of a new report into the care of the 63,000 children and young people with epilepsy in the UK. The report shows that excellence in care is possible but that, worryingly, many children with epilepsy do not get the right care and support.

A new anti-epileptic drug (AED), Fycompa (perampanel), has been launched today by the pharmaceutical company, Eisai.
Up to 70 per cent of people with epilepsy could have their seizures controlled but only 52 per cent actually do. This drug may offer a potential treatment to people who have partial-onset seizures that are not currently controlled.
