New epilepsy resource for GPs

UK charity Epilepsy Action has launched a brand new resource for GPs and those working in primary care. The ‘primary care resource pack’ is a one-stop-shop for information and advice about epilepsy. It provides a range of tools, templates and resources for healthcare professionals working in primary care. Epilepsy Action has worked closely with GPs to develop this resource, which was supported by an education grant from GlaxoSmithKline.

Announcement on UK driving regulation changes

The Driving Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) has published the final changes to the laws for people driving with epilepsy in the UK.

The DVLA will be introducing the proposed changes as set out in the consultation document that was produced last year. This means there will be no changes from the initial proposals. Although these regulations do not apply at the moment, they will come into force later in 2012.

Schools must do better to support pupils with epilepsy

A survey, by UK charity Epilepsy Action, released this week reveals that children with epilepsy are not being fully supported in schools, according to teachers and parents. The survey suggests that children with epilepsy are not reaching their full potential, not performing in line with their classmates and regularly miss school because of their epilepsy.
