Statement on epilepsy and Ivan Cameron [updated 26 February, 9.45am]

We do not yet know the circumstances of Ivan’s death but we do know that he had severe epilepsy, among other conditions.

Our thoughts are with the family and we hope that they will be given the space to grieve in private.

There are 58,000 children with epilepsy in the UK. Thankfully 70 per cent  of these children have their seizures well controlled by medication. However, over 17,000 children have uncontrolled epilepsy and experience seizures that can affect their daily life. They may also have other disabilities and medical conditions.

Report reveals raw deal for thousands with epilepsy

A serious neurological condition affecting nearly 400,000 people in England is largely being ignored, according to a report launched today by Epilepsy Action.

‘Epilepsy in England: time for change’ shows that epilepsy is a worryingly low priority for England's health service providers, despite numerous expert reports highlighting the need for better service provision. The report has identified considerable failings against national guidelines for epilepsy services set out by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) .

Edward Feild Primary School doodle their way to success

Pupils and staff at Edward Feild School in Kidlington have been named primary school winners in this year’s National Doodle Day competition.

The school was one of hundreds to take part in National Doodle Day, which took place earlier this year in aid of Epilepsy Action and the Neurofibromatosis Association. Members of the public and schools were invited to submit doodles into a national competition to raise vital funds for the two charities.
