Epilepsy Action is holding a raffle of some of its most coveted artworks submitted for National Doodle Day this year, following a successful 10-day auction of 302 pieces raising more than £26,000.
The auction closed on Sunday, 5 October, with the artwork donated by actor Sir Ian McKellen raising £3,000 alone. He said: “I’m delighted to lend my hand — quite literally — to National Doodle Day this year.
“My little Gandalf sketch joins countless others in raising vital funds for Epilepsy Action, whose work makes such a difference to so many lives. It’s a joy to be involved, and I hope these doodles bring both smiles and support where it’s needed most.”
Now, Epilepsy Action is holding a raffle, opening on Monday 13 October, for six additional exciting artworks from writers and illustrators Alice Oseman, R.W. Alley, Ralph Steadman, Axel Scheffle, Jason Cockcroft and Guy Parker-Rees.
Michael King, Doodle Day Lead at Epilepsy Action, said: “I want to thank everyone who created a doodle for us, or who bid on or bought a doodle. Every single penny goes towards helping Epilepsy Action provide their services that really can be life changing.”
Speaking about the raffle, he added: “These artworks regularly sell for up to £3,000 as part of National Doodle Day’s auction, but we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to own one of these iconic illustrations, with raffle tickets costing only £10 for each individual piece.”
The raffle will close on Monday 10 November.

Alongside Sir Ian, illustrators Ralph Steadman and R.W. Alley and actors Freema Agyeman and Dame Joanna Lumley contributed some of the highest-selling artworks at this year’s auction, together coming to more than £6,000.
With more than four million people viewing the eBay auction during its 10-day period, this has been the charity’s most popular National Doodle Day to date.
Comedic talents and previous contestants on the TV show Taskmaster, Stevie Martin, Phil Ellis, Fatiha El-Ghorri and Ania Magliano all donated artworks for the auction.
Michael said: “We set them a special task of competing with one another to see whose doodle would sell for the most. Each of them rose to the challenge, sharing some hilarious content across their social media – but in the end, Stevie Martin reigned victorious with her doodle selling for over £250.”
