The group is ran by Alan, here is what he say to say about the group:

We are here to listen and share experiences in a confidential, non-judgemental setting.  Although we cannot give medical advice, we can share knowledge about available support and often it just helps to learn from others who’ve gone through similar experiences.  Whatever your circumstances you will be most welcome to join us.

Alan shares his motivation for setting up the group:
“When I first started having seizures three years ago, like many people I knew very little about epilepsy.  A lot seemed to change overnight.  Things that I had taken for granted, like driving, were no longer possible.  Having to rely on others for things.  Workplace risk assessments.  So many hospital tests and appointments.  And once diagnosed, I had many questions: Will the medication stop the seizures?  What will the side effects be?

Along this journey, I found the online and face-to-face Epilepsy Action Support Groups to be a great source of information and support, but I was surprised to discover that a town the size of Warrington did not have a support group.  With an estimated 1 in every 100 people affected by epilepsy, this seemed like a void that needed to be filled.  So now that I understand a little more about epilepsy, I want to help support others on their journey.  So let’s get together and help each other to live our best lives: we may have epilepsy but we won’t let it define us!”
