The Manchester Beethoven Orchestra is hosting a concert to raise vital funds to help support the 600,000 people affected by epilepsy in the UK.
The concert, on Saturday 28 January at Christ Church, Didsbury, will raise money for Epilepsy Action. The orchestra has chosen to support Epilepsy Action this year as one of its members has been affected by epilepsy. Entrance to the concert is free and a collection will be taken for Epilepsy Action.
National charity Epilepsy Action is again calling all nurses who want training in epilepsy care. The charity is offering a number of training grants to help fund nurses through a Professional Diploma in Epilepsy Care.
We are pleased to see that NICE has issued guidance recommending retigabine as a treatment option for some people with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a complex condition which can be very difficult to treat. Up to 70 per cent of people with epilepsy could have their seizures controlled but only 52 per cent actually do. This drug may offer a potential treatment to people with epilepsy whose seizures are not currently controlled.
