Frequently Asked Questions
-
I’d love to share my story but I’m not sure about sharing my name – is this ok?
Of course! We recognize the significance of sharing your story with others and it can be a very personal thing. Journalists often prefer to use real names in their stories, but there are many other ways we can share your story anonymously in other areas of our work – our stories team can talk to you about ways we can do this.
-
What kind of stories are you looking for?
Epilepsy is about so much more than seizures and we’re always looking for stories that demonstrate the impact of the condition. It could be about the challenges you’ve faced at work and how you overcame them, or a situation where someone really made a difference for you.
-
Where could my stories be used?
There are many ways we could share your story but we’ll always have a chat about ideas and opportunities first to make sure you’re happy with us doing so. Your story could feature in on our social media channels, Epilepsy Today magazine, campaigns, our website and fundraising appeals. We also get regular requests from journalists for people affected by epilepsy to share their stories in the media.
-
How long will it be before my story is shared?
We get a lot of applications from people wanting to share their epilepsy story. It may be a while before the right opportunity comes up but our stories team will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss how we can use it.
-
Will I get to see my story before it’s published?
Of course – if we can use your story we will discuss it fully with you first and share the write-up with you beforehand. If you’re sharing with your story with the media, we will share your approved write-up with the journalist but we ultimately don’t have the final say in whether it is published or how it will be shared.
