Prolonged seizures can cause brain injuries or even death. Buccal midazolam is an emergency medicine to stop prolonged seizures. If you care for people who are prescribed buccal midazolam, it’s essential you have the appropriate training to administer the medicine correctly and safely. Epilepsy Action offers specialist training based on qualified, expert guidance. This accessible online course equips health and social care staff with the knowledge and confidence they need to administer buccal midazolam. 

The course contains 3 interactive eLearning modules and an end of course assessment. There are activities, videos and knowledge check questions throughout the course to ensure you understand the important points about how to administer the medicine safely.

The course has been developed with epilepsy specialist nurses and care professionals. 

This course will give you a certificate of completion. Your competency to administer buccal midazolam should be assessed by your employer in the workplace.


Epilepsy awareness training is an essential part of buccal midazolam training. You should have completed an Epilepsy Action online course relevant to your role before starting this course.

The course takes approximately 2 hours, but doesn’t need to be completed all at once. If you come back to the course at a later date, it will remember your progress.
