Statement on review of cases of children with epilepsy at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford

22 July, 2011

We have been made aware that a review of the case notes of children with epilepsy will take place at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. This is in response to concerns raised about the medical practice of a consultant paediatrician with an interest in epilepsy and neurology, at the hospital.

Philip Lee, chief executive at Epilepsy Action, said: “This is understandably a very worrying time for the parents and children involved. We trust the hospital will carry out a full and thorough review and inform the families of the outcome as quickly as possible”

Milton Keynes trio cycle 900 miles for epilepsy charity in memory of cousin

21 July, 2011

A Milton Keynes trio will cycle the length of the UK to raise money for national charity Epilepsy Action.

This summer, Mitch Wheeler, 51, and two of his sons, James, 16, and Thomas, 14, will cycle 900 miles from John O’Groats in the Scottish Highlands to Land’s End, Cornwall. They are taking on the challenge in memory of their nephew and cousin, Carl, who died as a result of his epilepsy in 2009 when he was just 19 years old.

Mitchell’s wife Diane will be providing support to the team along the way by setting up camp, preparing meals and helping with any first aid.
